Experience the beauty, history, and cultures of the Mediterranean while sailing onboard the Norwegian Jade.   The Norwegian Jade is a perfect size, and the crew is super friendly.  Expect delicious cuisine and great entertainment.   You’ll be staying in a balcony stateroom.  The cruise beverage package is included.  The itinerary is one-of-a-kind!   We’ll be visiting a few of my favourite ports of call and I’m so excited that we’ll be exploring a couple ports that are new to me.   You may wish to take in the natural beauty of Haifa’s cascading terraces at the splendid Baha’i Gardens or visit Nazareth and the Sea of Galilee where it’s believed that Jesus lived, preached, and performed miracles.  Be sure to discover Istanbul’s colourful Topkapi Palace and if you are a shopper don’t miss the bustling Grand Bazaar for a glimpse into local culture.  I’m very pleased that we are able to offer this exotic itinerary at a very attractive price.  Be sure to join me.

Day 1

Thursday, April 13
Due to our evening flight, we are including a post night stay at a Toronto Airport Hotel when you return to Toronto on Wednesday April 26th. This afternoon, complimentary park your vehicle at the Toronto Airport Hotel and shuttle to Toronto Pearson Airport where I will greet you and assist with your flight check-in. Afterwards meet your fellow passengers in the Plaza Premium Lounge while enjoying complimentary food and beverage. Early this evening board the flight to Athens, Greece.

Day 2

Friday, April 14
Athens is addictive.  This is the cradle of civilization, the oldest city in Europe.  Athens exudes a unique charm through its mix of street markets, vine-covered tavernas, souvenir stalls and ancient monuments.  Not only is this city home to the Acropolis and some of the most important structures and archaeological finds in the Western world, but it is also a very modern city, an urban amalgam of extraordinary art, culture, cuisine, and shopping.  After our arrival, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant followed by a city tour with a local expert.  Later we’ll check into a comfortable hotel for a 3-night stay.

Day 3

Saturday, April 15
Today we spend time in Delphi where we will attend a Greek Cooking Class prior to lunch.  This small town on the slant of Mount Parnassus, features beautiful views over the Pleistos Valley and the Adriatic Sea.  We’ll explore the Delphi historic site and Museum.  Ancient Greeks believed that Delphi was the “Centre of the Earth”, a place seen as a spiritual focal point.   Later we’ll travel back to Athens.  Tonight’s dinner is in a local restaurant/tavern.

Day 4

Sunday, April 16
It’s Orthodox Easter Sunday so we are going to travel to a traditional village in order experience the celebrations.  Enjoy an Easter themed lunch before returning to Athens.  We will have some relaxing time before tonight’s dinner.

Day 5

Monday, April 17
The staff onboard the NCL Jade will be awaiting our arrival.  Get settled into your balcony stateroom – home for 9 nights.

Day 6

Tuesday, April 18
On sea days, you have nowhere you have to be, and that’s part of the fun.  Sleep in, spend the day in the spa, learn a new skill, read a book, compete in contests, or attend a show.  It’s your choice.

Day 7

Wednesday, April 19
Ashdod is not only one of Israel’s fastest-growing cities, it’s also the country’s largest port.  It processes more than 60% of the goods imported into Israel.  Home to many ancient peoples over the centuries, Ashdod today is a modern, planned city and it’s also a convenient jumping-off point for exploring several of Israel’s most interesting cities including Jerusalem.  Dating back to 17th-century BC, Jerusalem is one of the most ancient cities in the world.  Destroyed and rebuilt over thousands of years, Jerusalem’s spiritual magnetism endures.

Day 8

Thursday, April 20
Haifa is a northern Israeli port city built in tiers extending from the Mediterranean up the north slope of Mount Carmel.  The views from Bahia Gardens on Mount Carmel, the largest hanging gardens in the world, are incredible, and make for a superb picture spot.  Peruse the boutiques on Massada Street or go to the artists’ village of Ein Hod.  You may wish to book a shore excursion to Tel Aviv.  With the city’s beautiful beaches, diverse cultural scene, and top-notch cuisine there’s always something to see and do here.

Day 9

Friday, April 21
Limassol provides many archaeological sites, as well as an array of contemporary shops for exploring.  Wrapped around a castle, the historic centre radiates out in a web of lanes filled with old houses and modern boutiques.  It’s an area that is as popular with locals as with visitors.

Day 10

Saturday, April 22
This Greek Island off the coast of Turkey exudes beauty and history.   Enjoy breathing pure Aegean air.   The atmospheric Old Town is a maze of cobbled streets that will spirit you back to the days of the Byzantine empire and beyond.  Book a walking tour of the old, fortified city and stand in awe of the impressive Grand Master’s Palace.  Along the scenic coast lies the whitewashed town of Lindos with its ancient acropolis and stunning views.

Day 11

Sunday, April 23
Kusadasi is a large resort town on Turkey’s Aegean coast.  This hugely popular tourist destination offers a perfect combination of culture, amazing beaches, and fantastic things to eat and do.  Consider taking a journey into the past in richly historic Ephesus.  Once an Ancient Greek city, Kusadasi was known for the famed Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.  Built, destroyed, and rebuilt again through several notably historic periods, Ephesus boasts abounding ruins and archaeological excavation sites.

Day 12

Monday, April 24
The splendid city of Istanbul has many unique and fascinating features.  It is the only city in the world reaching across two continents, with its old city in Europe and modern Istanbul situated in Asia, separated by the Bosphorus Strait. There’s a new aura of excitement in Istanbul these days, as this centre of the Ottoman Empire has become one of the world’s focal points for art, fashion, haute cuisine, and nightlife.  Of course, there’s always an abundance of ancient monuments and grand mosques with stunning rescues to see here, like the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.  Head to any park and you’ll see why tulips have long been the symbol of this city.  The charm and character of Istanbul lies in its endless variety and jumble of contradictions.

Day 13

Tuesday, April 25
Mykonos is a classic Greek Island with whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, and windmills.  Add the reputation for beautiful beaches and you’ll understand why Mykonos is the most popular island in the Cyclades.

Day 14

Wednesday, April 26
Early this morning say farewell to the NCL Jade crew.  Travel to the Athens International Airport where we’ll check in for our flight back to Toronto.  After your arrival we have included an overnight stay at a Toronto Airport Hotel.   Tomorrow morning you’ll be refreshed and ready to drive home.  Thanks for joining me on this Exotic Mediterranean Journey.

Due to traffic or other circumstances beyond our control, it may be necessary or desirable to make alterations. Level 2 – Moderate | This trip is appropriate for travellers who are in good health and are comfortable with full-day excursions. Participants with basic good balance, mobility, and moderate fitness level should not require physical preparation to enjoy the various activities of this tour. Walking on uneven terrain, sometimes uphill, walking and standing for long periods of time during guided tours, easy physical activities, stairways sometimes without handles, absence of elevators, and getting on and off various modes of transportation unassisted can be expected. Those travelling with canes may be able to participate pending level of dependence. Not suitable for someone that requires the use of a walker.
