Get ready to go wild in the rugged beauty of the Last Frontier onboard the Norwegian Jewel. This Alaska cruise itinerary is one of the best ones I’ve offered as it includes so many exciting national treasures – calving glaciers, breathtaking fjord and lively historic gold mining towns like Juneau and Ketchikan plus for the first time a 3-night resort stay in Girdwood, AK.

Spring in Alaska?

Many, consider spring the best time to visit Alaska. I have visited Alaska many times and admit the weather is very temperamental throughout the entire season, but you need to be prepared for all kinds of weather. Juneau averages 50 inches of rain per year but the least of that rainfall happens during the month of May. The ports are less crowded in spring and let me tell you that is a HUGE plus. As the trees are coming to life, so is the abundance of classic Alaska wildlife. To top things off the mountains should still have snow-caps in May.

Most importantly when planning I look for a cruise itinerary that includes Hubbard Glacier – in my books it’s the BEST one to visit and as BONUS this itinerary also includes exciting Glacier Bay!

This itinerary is nicely paced but in order to enjoy this journey you need to have good mobility.

Alaska is one of those “must see” destinations.

See you onboard,

April 28 – May 12, 2023

Day 1

Friday, April 28
Enjoy a relaxing evening including parking at a Toronto Airport hotel.

Day 2

Saturday, April 29
This morning we’ll gather at Toronto Pearson Airport for our flight to Vancouver. After check-in join fellow passengers in the Airport Premium Lounge where you can help yourself to food and beverage. On arrival we’ll meet our local guide and will explore Vancouver. Positioned between the snow-dusted North Shore Mountains and the rich, blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver blends big-city sophistication with small-town charm. Later we’ll check into a comfortable 4-star rated hotel for the evening.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 3

Sunday, April 30
Experience Victoria’s signature beauty on a full-day tour from Vancouver. Travelling by coach and ferry, witness the region’s stunning waterways and mountains en route to British Colombia’s capital. Beautiful and historic, Victoria is a fantastic place to visit. Known as the Garden City, it’s in full bloom in spring. You’ll be snapping photos when visiting the city’s top attraction, the world-famous Butchart Gardens, a 44-acre haven for flower enthusiasts. Marvel at the spectacular floral displays and theme gardens. You’ll also have some time to wander through the quaint downtown core with its British colonial architecture.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 4

Monday, May 1
Enjoy breakfast this morning. Soon we will get our first glimpses of the beautiful NCL Jewel. The NCL Jewel is a comfortable base from which to explore Alaska. Enjoy lunch after we board and then get settled into your balcony stateroom. We sail at 5pm. Enjoy some beverages as we’ve included the NCL Beverage Package for the duration of your cruise (value up to $15 per beverage).
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 5

Tuesday, May 2
Get ready for amazing views and wildlife like nowhere else as you sail through the island of Alaska’s beautiful Inside Passage. Try to spot the “Big 5” of Alaskan land mammals – bear, moose, caribou, wolf, and Dall sheep. You are bound to spot bald eagles, colourful puffins, humpback whales, orcas, and reindeer. Be sure to bring a pair of binoculars and your camera.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 6

Wednesday, May 3
Ketchikan is known as the “Salmon Capital of the World”. The cruise pier is practically on top of the town so it’s very easy to stroll to see the many totem poles and famous Creek Street, infamous because it originally was the red-light district. Today it houses a variety of shops along a picturesque river. Its Tlingit Indian name, Kach Khanna, means “spread wings of the eagle.” Chances are you’ll see one of those magnificent birds perched atop a Sitka tree. Thanks to its abundant rainfall, Ketchikan is surrounded by some of the world’s most lush wilderness.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 7

Thursday, May 4
Juneau is the Capital of Alaska. We dock prior to lunch, and I’ll provide you with a ticket so you can ride the Mount Roberts Tramway for a spectacular aerial view. I always visit TAKU Seafood shop and purchase their delicious dry grilling rubs. Surprisingly, Juneau souvenir shops offer many “reasonable” offerings.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 8

Friday, May 5
In a single year from 1896 to 1897, this remote town along the Inside Passage grew from a few tents to a city of 20,000 gold seekers. Today, travellers come in search of other riches – to experience yesteryear along Skagway’s charming boardwalk lined with buildings that replicate those Gold Rush days. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 9

Saturday, May 6
Sail to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, a United Nations World Heritage site. Compressed of 3.3 million acres of natural wonders, it is home to magnificent glaciers, snow-capped mountains and abundant birds and wildlife. Take an Alaska cruise to experience the magnificent glaciers and wildlife at the Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 10

Sunday, May 7
Get up close and personal with the gigantic Hubbard Glacier. I never thought that staring at a giant piece of ice would be so amazing until I first witnessed Hubbard Glacier. Remarkable and absolutely brilliant are a few words that I use to describe the experience. Hubbard Glacier is the longest tidewater glacier in the world. Hubbard measures 5 miles long and 40 stories high, making it the largest tidewater glacier in North America. Calving occurs on a daily basis here, so you’ll get to watch and hear as massive chunks of ice fall from the glacier. This glacier is protected so only a limited number of cruise ships are able to access it.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 11-13

Monday, May 8 – Wednesday, May 10
This morning we say farewell to the crew on board the NCL Jewel. Take in the breathtaking views as you sail into Seward. Quaint and charming, the intimately small size of Seward adds to its appeal. For three nights enjoy a stay at a chateau-style resort nestled in a lush valley, surrounded by mountain peaks in Girdwood, AK. We’ll spend some time exploring the area and you can also look forward to some relaxation in this beautiful settling.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 14

Thursday, May 11
This morning we fly to Seattle. WA from Anchorage, AK. Instead of connecting to Toronto I thought you would enjoy exploring this world-class city while being surrounded by mountains, water and evergreen forests. Enjoy an informative city tour with a local expert. We’ll gather for a cocktail reception later this afternoon.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B/L/D)

Day 15

Friday, May 12
Today we continue our journey home to Toronto. The greatest souvenir you will bring home is many wonderful memories of Alaska. Thanks for travelling with me. Welcome Home!
